Toyota Kirloskar Motors Private Limited (TKMPL) is a subsidiary of the Japanese automobile giant the Toyota Motor Corporation. They have vehicles in most of the segments. The MUV Toyota Innova is the most sought after Toyota vehicle. To increase their share in the lower segments the TKMPL has launched the Etios Cross in May 2014 after unveiling the same during the 2014 Indian auto expo.
The Etios Cross price Rupees 5.75 to 7.4 lakh has 4 variants, two each in petrol and diesel. The Etios Cross 1.5G will be the base petrol variant and the Cross 1.5V will be the top variant. For diesel 1.4 GD will be base one and the Cross 1.4VD will be the top variant.
The Toyota Cross based on the sedan Etios has a better exterior than the sedan. The front fascia has an aggressive grille, extended headlamp clusters with halogen lamps, large fog lamps on the front bumper and the silver bull bar and the skid plate along with the black bumper. Black cladding on all the three sides with silver skirting, a rear spoiler, the silver coloured roof rails and the carving of the name on the claddings are the other features of the body.
The standard features of the cabin of the Etios Cross include a manual AC, a tilt steering, an engine immobiliser, central and child lock facilities, power windows, rear defogger and wiper, internally adjustable body coloured ORVMs with blinkers and a 2 Din music system with auxiliary and USB connectivity. Top variants have 2 air bags, ABS, EBD and Bluetooth connectivity for telephony. The cabin has good leg space for the rear passengers and the boot space is 251 litres.
The diesel versions are powered by a 1364 cc, 67 bhp, 170 NM torque engine giving a fuel efficiency of 23.59 kmpl. For the base petrol variants an 1197 cc volume, 79 bhp and 173 NM torque engine giving mileages of 17.71 kmpl is used. Top petrol variant has a 1496 cc, 89 bhp engine which gives mileages of 16.78 kmpl.
The Etios Cross comes in colours of ultramarine blue, celestial black, classic grey, vermilion red, symphony silver, harmony beige, white and inferno orange. The physical dimensions of the Etios Cross are 3895 mm length, 1735 mm width, 1555 mm height, 2460 mm wheel base and 174 mm ground clearance. The suspension is McPherson type at the front and Torsion beam type at the rear and the wheels are 15” sized.
The hatchbacks Liva and Etios Cross have a combined monthly sales figure of 2000 units. The competition for the Etios Cross will come from the Fiat Avventura, the Volkswagen Cross Polo and the Ford EcoSport.
